During the last weekend in May, a group of friends and I headed south of the border to spend a weekend in Sonora. My friends Jeff, Matt, and Laura, my cousin Jamie, my brother Kevin, and I visited the lovely little town of San Carlos, located on the coast of the Gulf of California.
The trip was fantastic because we were able to actually breathe after having finished a semester of school. Kevin just returned from his mission in Maracaibo, Venezuela, so he was able to relax as well. We stayed in a very comfortable beach house owned by Matt's family, the McRaes. It was the perfect place to relax.
While we were there, we did a lot of things to keep ourselves busy. Late-night domino games, trivial pursuit, snorkeling, body surfing, and sea kayaking were some of the ways we spent our time, with a lot of Thrifty Ice cream eating, sleeping, tennis, and souvenir hunting thrown in for good measure. It was nice and warm; not too hot and humid. The water was still cold but enjoyable.
One of the "really neat" things we did on the trip was go to Church in Guaymas, about 15 minutes away. It was a lot of fun for Kevin and I to attend Sacrament meeting there because it took us back to our missions. The Spirit was very strong there because the members had such strong, sweet testimonies of what the Gospel has done for them in their lives. I loved it so much, and my love for the Latin people increased even more.
